Your Brain is Better on Music

Have you ever listened to music to relax, study or exercise? If so, you’ve likely experienced the therapeutic benefits of music. In my first TEDx talk I share how scientifically designed music and neurotechnology can facilitate positive changes in brain chemistry, function and structure through the simple practice of listening. But there is more to it than meets the ear.

Watch, listen and discover why children and adults with autism, sleep, depression, learning, emotional, and stress related difficulties are being helped by the power of music to reveal and access their true potential.

This talk features the neuroscience-based music programs we have created at Advanced Brain Technologies, Vital Neuro, and Sleep Genius.

Since a direct livestream link is not yet ready you’ll want to login to Facebook and go to the TEDxOgden Facebook page to find the livestream when the event begins. If you do not see it right away, refresh the screen and check the page again.

Given there are 7 speakers and entertainment, my talk may not start exactly at the scheduled time, so it would be a good idea to tune in earlier and be prepared for the talk to start earlier or later then planned.

I hope you can watch this evening (morning and day for many of my international friends) and that you will share the event with people who you want to hear about the value music has to enhance our lives, and the lives of the people we care about.

Conscious Listening with Julian Treasure

For the past few months I’ve really been enjoying my new Sound Brain Fitness Series. These free monthly, 60 minute teleseminars are open to the public and cover wide ranging topics intended to help people transform their lives through a better understanding of sound, music, and the brain.

The next program is October 3rd at 8:00 pm eastern. My guest is Julian Treasure; author, four-time TED.com speaker, and leading sound consultant. The topic is Conscious Listening.  Julian and I will explore listening, our active relationship with sound. Listening is something almost everyone does, and it profoundly impacts on our health, effectiveness and relationships, and even changes our reality – and yet almost no-one thinks about it consciously or trains to become better at it.

Along the way they we’ll cover:

  • What listening is
  • How it differs from hearing and how we do it
  • Why our listening is in danger
  • The pros and cons of headphones
  • Five practices for becoming a conscious listener

Please join us for this exciting hour and register here. You can listen on the phone or online. When you register be sure to submit a question you would like to have answered on the call. There will also be an opportunity to call in and have your question answered live!

Am I a Psychopath?

Writer and documentary filmmaker Jon Ronson explores the world of psychopaths in his latest book, The Psychopath Test. Yesterday TED posted his talk; strange answers to the psychopath test.

Entertaining talk which may just answer the question- Am I a Psychopath? Incidentally sound expert  Julian Treasure  is the man creating the fantastic live-mixed sound on this talk. He is one of my favorite TED speakers and an upcoming guest on my monthly Sound Brain Fitness teleseminar series. Information to come on that soon…
